Ceasing Telephoned Prescription Orders
From Monday 16th September we will no longer be accepting telephone requests for prescriptions.
The best way to order your repeat prescription is by using the NHS APP or you can request via the Pharmacy.

Here’s your handy guide to ordering repeat prescriptions with the NHS App. Simplify your life!
Every month in 2024, around 2 million repeat prescriptions are ordered through the NHS App and NHS Website! This incredible service makes managing your medications easier than ever.
Benefits of Using the NHS App:
- View Your Prescribed Items: Easily see all your prescribed medications in one place.
- Identify Prescription Types: Quickly determine if your prescriptions are repeat or one-off.
- Know Your Prescribing Professional: Check which healthcare professional prescribed your medication.
Why Use the NHS App?
The NHS App offers a completely free service that is quick, easy, and convenient for your patients. Here’s how it works:
- Requesting Prescriptions: When you select a repeat prescription request, it is sent directly to your GP surgery for approval.
- Issuing Prescriptions: Once approved, your prescription is issued directly to your nominated pharmacy.
- 24/7 Ordering: You can order your prescriptions anytime, without waiting for the surgery to open.
- Track Your Prescriptions: After placing an order, you can track the status and view the history of your repeat prescriptions, including the last order date.
Now here’s a cheerful guide to accessing NHS services through the NHS App:

Step 1: Prescriptions Screen
Choose the ‘Your nominated pharmacy’ option to ensure your prescription goes to the right place. You can update your nominated pharmacy anytime for convenience. It’s the best way to access a range of services online and make sure your prescriptions are sent correctly.
Step 2: Confirm the Pharmacy
Check your chosen pharmacy selection as detailed in ‘Choose a nominated pharmacy’ above. Once confirmed, click ‘Back’ to return or proceed with ordering by clicking ‘Order a Prescription’. The NHS App gives you a secure way to access these services online.
Step 3: Select Prescription Type
You have two choices: repeat or non-repeat prescriptions. Non-repeat prescriptions are for one-time medications and require direct contact with your GP. For a repeat prescription, select ‘A repeat prescription’ and click ‘Continue’. This is the simplest and most secure way to access a range of NHS services.
Step 4: Choose Your Medicines
Select the medications needed and click ‘Continue’. You can also include any notes for your GP in the provided text box if necessary. The NHS App, run by NHS Digital, ensures you get help and access NHS services efficiently and securely.
Enjoy the convenience and reliability of the NHS App, available for your smartphone or tablet, to manage your prescriptions and other NHS services online.

Step 5: Verify Your Prescription Details
Double-check your order and make sure your nominated pharmacy is correct.
If everything looks good, click ‘Confirm and request your prescription’.
To make any changes, just hit the ‘Back’ button to return to the previous screen. Patients can access all their health services, ensuring clinical safety and up-to-date information.
Step 6: Prescription Ordered
Your request is now confirmed and will be sent to your GP surgery for approval.
Once approved, the prescription will show as issued on your order summary screen and be sent to your nominated pharmacy. This process empowers patients to manage their health services efficiently.
Your pharmacy will notify you when your prescription is ready for collection. For any queries, please contact the pharmacy directly.
